Productivity and Efficiency can be dramatically improved with the use of an electronic health record. Some of the ways this can be achieved is through streamlining general everyday processes such as telephone messages and medication refills, also by improving physician workflow through more efficient charting capabilities and complete and organized access to patient records with a few clicks. Mobile access to patient charts allows nurses and doctors to record vitals and complete progress notes, excuse notes, permission slips and other documents while the patient is in the room this reduces errors and saves valuable time, improved inter-office communication through the use of electronic messages and patient tracking and fast and easy reporting for billing or performance reviews. I recommend we take immediate action by planning our key goals we would like to achieve through the implementation of an electronic health record and work towards finding a system that will meet all our minimum requirements while staying within our budget. I also propose that we seek legal counsel to review the contract prior to making any final decisions. I feel that it is very important to include the staff from the beginning informing them what to expect and what we will expect of them in the near and distant future.
