Everyone has certain sexual desires. Whatever those things may be, it is all normal, right? Well that is up for debate. Some sexual desires are not considered normal. These are called paraphilias. Paraphilia is defined as; “any intense and persistent sexual interest other than sexual interest in genital stimulation or preparatory fondling with phenotypic ally normal, physically mature, consenting human partners; if a paraphilia causes distress or impairment to the individual or if its satisfaction entails personal harm (or the risk of such harm) to others, it is considered a paraphilic disorder (Brannon, 2013).” Some of the most common paraphilias are Voyeuristic, Exhibitionistic, Frotteuristic, Sexual masochism, Sexual sadism, Pedophilic, Fetishistic, and Transvestic. Each one of these has very distinctive characteristics and is considered to be outside of the norm. Voyeuristic disorder is when someone has sexual desire for watching unsuspecting people get undresses or having sex. People with exhibitionistic disorder like to expose their genitals to an unsuspecting person. They do so more for the shock factor than to actually initiate sexual activity. Frotteuristic disorder consists of rubbing one’s genitals against a non consenting person. Sexual masochism disorder is when someone gets sexually aroused by being beaten or humiliated.
