Personal Narrative: Sarah Parcak

The sun’s burning rays beat down on us as we dug through the layers of Egyptian sand and rock. We had only begun the excavation the previous day and had already uncovered one-fifth of the ancient pyramid. I, as well as a team of high-ranking archaeologists, had accompanied Sarah Parcak in an expedition to unearth a lost Egyptian pyramid. “How’s your section of the chamber coming along, Erica? We’ve just uncovered a new sarcophagus,” remarked Sarah as she passed by, carrying a large coffin. “Oh, it’s great. I’ve just finished a passage. I’ve also found a new entrance. After I explore it I’ll move all of the relics and artifacts out once I’ve finished uncovering the door,” I replied. The entrance appeared to lead into a tomb. As I began walking towards the entryway and prying open the slabs of blocks blocking it, years of built up dirt rose from its resting place and hit my face. I was scared. Many archaeologists had caught malaria on expeditions and never survived. I looked around. Near the entrance, there were two guards, each holding a staff. They were decorated in ancient symbols and heavy gold. There was furniture in the corner closest to the head of the sarcophagus covered in jewelry, gold robes, and many other relics made of gold. I assumed this belonged to the king and was left for him for the after life. I left the chamber and called for an excavation team as well as Sarah.
“Erica, I fear for you. You have uncovered the tomb of King Tata Katum. Myths have said that the discoverer will die,” said Sarah when she finished analyzing the tomb.
Just then, I fell to the ground and woke up in my hotel room. I did not remember what happened after falling. I lifted myself off the bed and stood up. But before I could reach the door, it flung open. Sarah walked in and told me to lay
