Hamlet waited a long time to get revenge on Claudius which caused many bad things to happen such as people dying unnecessarily and causing him to die. Hamlet calls himself a peasant, slave, coward, ass, and whore for not getting revenge faster and waiting a long time (Doc B). Hamlet also tells himself “My thoughts be bloody, or be nothing worth”(Doc B)! In Hamlets conversation with the ghost of his father he is told he is “Doomed for a certain term to walk the night, and for the day confined to fast in fires, Till the foul crimes done in my days of nature are burnt and purged away”(Doc A). Hamlets actions here are unjustified because he thinks worse of himself because he has not gotten revenge quickly. Also the ghost of his father told him to get revenge fast so he is not confined to fast in fires which Hamlet did not do(Documents A and B). You could say Hamlets actions were justified by calling himself negative words and the fact that he did indeed end up killing Claudius and getting revenge for his

Hamlet Essay Characters who parallel, yet contrast one another are said to act as foils. Ophelia and Laertes act as foils for Hamlet, as they develop the theme: The murder of a loved one corrupts a person in a way that it triggers acts of irrational behaviour. In the play Hamlet, we are able to see the actions that Ophelia and Laertes take once they experience a murder similar to Hamlet 's. Ophelia and Hamlet experience the same feelings of grief and despair towards their fathers. After the death of Polonius, Ophelia becomes robbed of her sanity. As Claudius explains, “... More specifically, the tainted view of an individual in a family may result in the downfall of the other family members involved. Evidence of tainted view of a family member causing undue harm can be found in the relationship between Hamlet and Claudius, Hamlet and Gertrude, and Hamlet and Old King Hamlet. The relationship between Hamlet and Claudius is problematic, largely due to the fact that they both wish death upon the other.…

Hamlet is portrayed as a gritty anti-hero with human flaws and qualities such as arrogance, apathy and paranoia, which are revealed in his hamartia and peripeteia. Hamlet’s selfishness fuels his revenge against Claudius but he follows through intelligently, but arrogantly as he refuses to consider the welfare of others. Hamlet’s revenge triggered a series of remorseless murders in the name of his father. The constant surveillance on Hamlet instigated his constant paranoia of being watched and plotted against because his trust was always betrayed. Gertrude’s hasty marriage and Duncan’s surreptitious murder infuriates Hamlet’s enough to feel obligated to avenge his father’s death mercilessly while demonstrating anti-heroic qualities of hamartia…

Claudius Suspects On Hamlet’s Madness: Hamlet’s madness was suspected by only one person that is Claudius. Claudius, who killed his brother and married his sister-in-law (Hamlet’s mother), was a cunning and wicked person, who had a strong doubt on Hamlet’s madness and made many conspiracies along with Polonius by using his daughter Ophelia as a trap to know the reason of Hamlet’s madness. When Ophelia comes before Hamlet, they (Claudius and Polonius) spy on them behind the arras. Initially Hamlet is tender with Ophelia but after realizing her disloyalty through her artificial talks he behaves harshly with her and taunts her and uses vulgar language.…

But in our circumstance and course of thought 'Tis heavy with him, and am I then revenged?” (3.3.74-84). Hamlet always had trouble making up his mind to take action, although he can act vigorously at critical moments when he doesn 't have time to think, Hamlet told himself that this is not the right moment to kill him because Claudius was in a state of grace and might go to heaven, whereas Hamlet 's father was killed asleep and did not have time to repent for his sins. Hamlet decided to wait and kill the king "When he is drunk asleep, or in his rage, / or in th ' incestuous pleasure of his bed; /At gaming, a-swearing, or about some act / That has no relish of salvation in 't" (3.3.88-92), and this was the part where hamlet started to delay the death of Claudius due to trying to plan the best way to kill Claudius and not send him to heaven so he wouldn’t be doing him…

In hindsight, getting revenge for his father’s death seemed imminent, justifiable, and achievable to Hamlet, but he never considered the interference of internal and external forces at play. He attempts to rationalize this cognitive dissonance (a state in which a person’s beliefs/values and actions contradict each other) as a way to relieve this internal conflict, wanting to kill Claudius but not actually going through with it when he’s given a perfect opportunity, by saying that he’ll wait until he’s in a more compromising and particularly sinful situation to kill him, which is preposterous in and of itself. Deep down, he knows this isn’t plausible, but regardless it works as a quick temporary solution for the problem and at that moment, it takes precedence over rationality. And once a person procrastinates, it becomes exponentially easier and seemingly convenient to fall into this cycle until eventually you’re forced to deal with the unavoidable repercussions at the end, for instance when Hamlet kills Claudius after Gertrude and Laertes die at the end of the…
