The case in the Part 2: Summary focuses on an offender named, Melissa Jade Higgins, who was convicted for childcare fraud offences in March 2015. Through my court observations, I had the opportunity witness the assessment of Ms Higgins Mental illness during the proceedings. This examination involved various opinions and statements on behalf of members of the family and an expert psychologist in assessing the conditions of the offender and the best treatment for them. The MIC program is specialised for offenders with severe mental disorders who undergo supervision for 1 year with regular monitoring and targeted treatment for each offender. In cases of offenders with major mental diagnosis are placed into the MIOF program for 1 year in with treatment involving counselling and regular medications. After this completion, they are then transfer into the MIC program.
