After suffering several defeats, the Generals of the Canadian Corps put Arthur Currie into power. On February 1917, Sir Arthur William Currie was given orders to subjugate the Germans and procure Vimy Ridge. It was in the control of the Germans and was deemed to have an impenetrable defence by both the Germans and the Allies (Morton par. 2). However, Currie already had considerable amount of battle experience and proclaimed that their losses and high causalities had been a result of poor preparation and horrible scouting (Cruxton and Wilson 91). He was not going to allow his men into no-man’s land “to be slaughtered as they stumbled toward enemy machine gunners and barbed wire” (Cruxton and Wilson 91).
