In order to achieve a healthy lifestyle, people need to maintain a good mental health in the meantime. Vegetarian diets are also linked with people’s mental health closely with the definition as “a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” Diets play an important role when it comes to human mood, which create a positive relationship. In modern society, people from every age group suffer from depression. A report in the British Journal of Psychiatry clarifies that “individuals eating whole foods reported fewer symptoms of depression compared to those who ate mostly processed foods”, which proves that vegetarians have more positive moods than meat-eaters. The reason for the reduction of depression with plant-based foods is because these food contains high amount of antioxidants, which help decrease the inflammation in the brain and neurotransmitters imbalance. Although people state that there are lower EPA and DHA of omega-3 fatty acids intake in vegetarian diets, vegetarians are still reported to have less negative mood and depression.
