Ideas surrounding Utopian and Dystopian societies are popular due to the fact that it gives writers a chance to change the world around them to whatever they see fit for a story, no matter how unrealistic. An example of this is the story “Harrison Bergeron”, the writer uses a dystopian world to morph society into being “completely equal” and wrote a story based on it. Without the dystopian societal ideal, the story wouldn’t have been possible, for there has never been a time where all people were equal, so we could never know what would happen if the world were equal, because we couldn’t shape the stories world to be like that.
