He reminded me of this because Simmons expressed his feelings about making the right choices and this quote from Habit 1 is similar to what Simmons talked about. I could recall Simmons saying to us that we should always “begin with an end in mind” which reminded me of Habit 2.
His statement reminded me of Habit 2 where Covey said, “Beginning with the end in mind is a powerful way to help turn your dreams into realities” (Habit 2, pg 75). Thurgood Marshall was the key figure of the conference and is a huge figure in black history. Now that I look back at the photo, I see now how this event holds real sentimental value to me. It planted a thought in my head about how Thurgood Marshall fought through struggles his entire life, and I need to be like him and go through all the roadblocks in life and reach the destination that I want to go. Looking back on that day, Simmons quoted, “None of us got where we are solely by pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps” (Thurgood Marshall).
The quote reminds me of Habit 3, where Covey explains how we should put first things first.
