1. Summary- This article provided information about how dated our medical text books are about the topic of human variation/ diversity. Many medical textbooks still only go by the term “race” as the only human variation there is like for example Caucasians, or African Americans, rather than ancestry. The article also addressed how medical students would benefit from learning about human variation, because it can help them with medical diagnoses. Another aspect the paper talked about is how much diversity is actually in the world. This article did an inadequate job providing information on why the human body in health and disease cannot be fully understood without adequately incorporating different levels of human variation. This paper did help me understand that human variation or diversity is not widely discussed in the medical field even though it is needed to better diagnose people. 6. Understanding Anthropology- This article helped me gain a better understanding of anthology, through typology, which I learned is a part of linguistics. Typology focused on classifying types, in this case it was classifying race. Typology proved to be limiting in that it neglected areas of variation and did not address the complex patterns of distribution for different traits. The typological approach provided information that the members of a race have all of the actual and imaginary characteristics of the race it is being classified as. I also learned that typology is used in archaeology to help classify different objects, and archaeology is part of anthropology.

The most surprising part of this article to me was how it did not address the topics in detail like it was reflected in the abstract. The article did not provide much detail, in that it lacked evidence. I did not seem to grasp
