“The role of schooling was to equip individuals with the skills necessary to participate in the social life of their community and to change the nature of the social order as needed or desired.” - George Count, American educational philosopher. Students cleaning up the school is another component of the school’s purpose to prepare the students to enter the community with the utmost respect. It teaches the students to become a member of society and take responsibility for themselves. Participating in this proposal should be a civil responsibility since it is the school that grants us education, we shouldn’t take it for granted and make a mess of the place. In addition, we gain a lot of benefits including life lessons that could never be taught in school, ones that might only come through self-realization. Although many may argue that it is too late to start, americans are just too lazy, or stated in Nathan Glazer’s article, Some very modest proposals for the improvement of american education, “Children don’t do that good a job”. These are just controversies that can be proven wrong, the development in cleaning the school will matter. Schools are like our homes, a place where we develop, grow to become adults and enter the doors of society so therefore we must clean it to show the pride of where we were educated.
