Can you imagine walking into a bathroom with the uncertainty of a ceiling tile falling on you , stall doors that don’t lock, and lights that don’t function? Well, most students at Surprise Lake Middle School can, because it occurs to many Surprise Lake students on a daily basis. Most students attending here dread going to the bathroom at school. Schools are always promising about health, safety, and privacy, but seem to exclude our faulty bathrooms. There is an extreme problem with our bathrooms at Surprise Lake, leaving our right of privacy, safety, and health in jeopardy.

Privacy is something that is promised at Surprise Lake Middle School, whereas the bathrooms do not fulfill this policy. According to former teacher, Dr. Thomas Keating,

Dr. Thomas Keating conducted a survey with many Principals, Superintendents, and students across the nation, and found that students vandalize bathrooms by breaking weak soap dispensers, and spit or urinate in them. He also found out that that there was shortages of toilet paper in many schools. This also is something Surprise Lake deals with. While these updates and solutions may be costly, these updates have shown to decrease bullying and unhealthy symptoms, such as constipation and bladder infections. Students can also help this issue by treating our bathrooms with respect. A healthy habit to keep themselves and others safe is to wash your hands after using the bathroom. Well, studies show that most janitors stop refilling soap dispensers, because how easy and quick it is to get into them and soil the batch of soap for that day. If students do not know about this, a trickle effect occurs, leaving many peoples with a higher chance of getting sick or infected. This can also lead to having to stay home and miss a day of education students desperately need. Healthy bathrooms at Surprise Lake are necessary for every student to have an equal chance at becoming smarter, more civilized

The article first begins by examining the legal battle between the state and Justice Department over the underlying issues with the law. Just when you thought the GOP couldn't get any creepier in their views on sexuality and gender, a new stomach churning Republican proposed bill coming out of Virgina will make you recoil in absolute horror. Earlier this week Republican Delegate Mark Cole put forth a bill that would require schools to verify a child's “anatomical sex" in a ridiculous attempt to make sure every student is using the bathroom that God intended. The bill; simply called House Bill 663, would stipulate that, “Local school boards shall develop and implement policies that require every school restroom, locker room, or shower room that is designated for use by a specific gender to solely be used by individuals whose anatomical sex matches such gender designation,”…

The Bathroom Policy is a bill that should have never needed to exist. In May of 2016, Barak Obama passed a bill for the ‘protection’ of transgender individuals in public schools all across the nation. This didn’t work out as planned. Men dressed as woman to secretly film them changing in bathrooms, teachers filmed pupils in bathrooms, even security guards have filmed under aged children for their own needs. You see this bill cause a lot of trouble, causing North Carolina to put a bill into action rebutting this law, making people use the restroom that identifies with the one on their birth certificate.…

From Poop to Problem: America’s Struggle to Accommodate Transgendered People in Public Restrooms Why is America obsessed with bathrooms? Personally I avoid obsessing over the places that people of all kinds make a tinkle or relieve the pressure on their external anal sphincters, or even on occasion both at the same time. These frequently foul smelling places have become the focal point of so much controversy in the world of gender equality. State and local governments, along with schools and other social institutions have finally began to realize the simple fact that transgendered people need to use the bathroom, and that this is not going away anytime in the near future.…

In our current times many prejudices against any abnormalities to the “two” genders are very controversial. As we have seen many people have been arguing about the Transgenders’ rights to their own self identification. I am impartial about the subject, but I do understand where both sides are coming from. This weeks reading has shown us the side of American culture where doctors at birth fix any genital abnormalities to the child to match what gender they may be. This is controversial because it potentially is a mistake as the minds are not developed and their sense of self may have been consistent with their gender “abnormalities,” many parents are pushed by the Doctor to treat and force upon their child to act in ways they wanted the gender to be.…
