The first album of the psychedelic era was Sgt. Pepper 's Lonely Hearts Club Band was a step in a different direction for The Beatles. As Hunter Davies states in The Beatles Lyrics “They seemed to be getting better, or at least different, moving on, or at least moving sideways, and of course sometimes deliberately backwards, but Sgt. The Beatles have denied the rumors that “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” is about tripping on acid they have said it was inspired by a drawing by John’s son Julian.
