Domestic violence is violent or aggressive behavioral pattern in a relationship between two partners within the home. This typically involves one of the partner’s greed to control the other by using violence. Every day in American and even on college campuses domestic violence takes place and someone in a relationship is being harmed, “Every nine seconds in the Unites States, a woman is assaulted or beaten. On average, nearly twenty people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner. During one year, this equates to more than ten million women and men.” (Statistics). These statistics could be reduced to a minimum number if only college campuses around the United States could all exemplify healthy relationships that do not involve violent encounters. The University of Louisiana at Monroe needs a new organization that can make a difference and give both women and men a sense of hope and safety, this solution should be the National Coalition against Domestic Violence, NCADV.
The National Coalition against Domestic Violence is an organization that was founded in 1978 in Washington, D.C., with a goal to “Organize for collective power by advancing transformative work, thinking, and leadership in communities and individuals who seek to end violence in their lives.” The NCADV began at the United States commission on Civil Rights hearing for battered women.
