The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka Change

Decent Essays
"The Metamorphasis" by Franz Kafka depicts two different viewpoints to change. It is both positive and negative in this story. Kafka writes "Was he an animal that music could have him so? He felt as if the way to the unknown nourishment he longed for were coming to light." This shows the postive side of change in the metamorphasis because Kafka is talking about how Gregor is feeling a way he has never felt before. Now that he is an animal, he has escaped from the life he doesn't enjoy. Negative change is also presented in this story. For example, Kafka states on page 93 "When Gregor Samsa woke up one morning from unsettling dreams, he found himself changed in his bed into a monstrous vermin." This reveals the negative side of Kafka on the subject

His father was a large, successful business man who would often disapprove of Kafka for being himself, and not being the man he wanted him to become. He forced Kafka to study law, whereas Kafka would have rather studied literature and wrote stories, which his tyrannical father despised and thought unnecessary. (biography).…

Franz Kafka’s twentieth-century classic, Metamorphosis, shows the changes of the Samsa family after their son, Gregor, turns into a vile insect. Even though Gregor has turned into the most disgusting of creatures, this “metamorphosis” is ironic compared to the transformation that his family endures. While Gregor still sustains his humanity, the lack of any compassion and mercy from his family is what makes them the disgusting creatures rather than Gregor. The changes of Gregor’s father, mother, and sister prove that the theme of metamorphosis is not exclusively present within Gregor. Kafka’s timeless novella, Metamorphosis, first shows, the physical and mental change of Gregor Samsa.…
