My father wanted to get his GED but cannot due to time constraints from work. My mother comes home every day from her job in pain from a fast-paced job where she is always on her feet. She only keeps the job because it is two minutes from our home. Yet, you would never hear my parents complain about the life they have lived. Their pride comes from their children who are both first generation college students at Seton Hall University. I am the first person in my entire family, including distant relatives, to graduate from college in the US. For the past four years, I have been pushing myself beyond my limits to one day have the ability to provide someone with the services, resources, and opportunities that will enable others to reach their dreams. I have spent many hours interning in Social Work offices for my major. The latest one was the International Rescue Committee, which works with refugees just arriving to the US. Working with refugees has opened my eyes to some of what my parents must have endured when they just arrived to the United States. The discrimination, the culture shock, and the loneliness are issues we confront with clients on a daily
