The filmmakers stated that faculty’s first job is to protect the reputation of the institution first, and the victims of sexual assault second. Faculty are practically told to keep silent about such matters. You heard nothing, you saw nothing, and you say nothing. If you become an activist, you risk job termination. One student stated that, after she informed a faculty member about her assault, that person later forgot about it, treating it as if it was not a big deal. Victims are scolded “You don’t know what he 's going through. He could be having a hard time. We don’t want him to feel pressured into leaving the campus because of this...incident. How terrible it must be for them, to be accused of such a heinous act.” Even in cases in which the accused came forward or there was sufficient evidence to prove guilt, perpetrators were generally given a slap on the wrist. A few were expelled and were later allowed back on the campus. At which point they sexually assaulted another person, because why not? There are not real repercussions for it, at least, not for them.
Schools are hesitant to act against fraternities. Fraternities benefit colleges because they do not have to supervise or pay for housing expenses. In addition, fraternities tie alumni to the school campus. Much of the donations a school gets are from alumni who were in a fraternity. Colleges do not want to bite the hand that feeds them. No warnings are given out about the dangers of fraternities. One in particular, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, became informally known as Sexual Assault
