The television has now been a staple of the American house hold ever since its introduction in 1950s. Sadly, around ninety-nine percent of Americans do watch their television religiously. Families now have more than one television set in their home which has increased since the 1950s, and with many now having them in their bedrooms. It has been placed as the king of entertainment for many of American people. Television now occupies the majority of people’s time in their day, after they are done sleeping and working. And so, it is bound to have many effects on the majority of Americans, both positive and negative. The Current research has been saying for some time that television watching is producing some major health problems with children, who are most vulnerable, as well as adults. Watching television religiously, no matter what the content can still have some effects that shape our lives from a positive life to a negative one. Therefore, it is the goal of my essay to focus on the health risks and effects that are caused by watching television. The major health effect is the televisions impact to nutrition and obesity especially in children. Currently there are many children that spend a lot of time in front of the television watching their favorite programs. Most starting during the day and watching until the evening with their parents before going to bed. This type of habit encourages a not healthy couch potato lifestyle for a child.
