Albert Einstein once said, “Never do anything against the conscience even if the state demands it”. This is meaning that individuality should be overruled by the government. Whether it be religion, morals, or just against the conscience, people should never be forced to do things against their wishes. Henry David Thoreau also agrees with Albert Einstein. He believes that the less the government interacts and directly affects the people the better. “But, just speak practically and as a citizen, unlike those who call themselves no-government men, ask for, not at once no government, but at once a better government” (Thoreau). The government cannot possibly represent each individual within their every belief; therefore, all individuals have a right to go against the government under certain circumstances.
The first circumstance that it is appropriate to go against the government is if the government is being over controlling. The United States government is a democracy. A democracy means that the country is run as a whole population. Therefor, the entire American population should have a say in what happens in their country. This is why the people vote who they deem fit to make life impacting decisions about the country. "The government itself, which is only the mode which people have chosen to execute their will, is equally liable to be abused and perverted before the people can ask through it” (Thoreau).
