With the increase of the feminism movement into the mainstream people have been questioning what it truly means to be a man or a woman in today’s society. People with traditional beliefs will tell you it is the man’s responsibility to go out, find a job, provide for his family, and do all the physically demanding task around the house; meanwhile, it is the woman’s job to stay at home, take care of the kids and do the all the other housework that is not seen as physically straining such as cooking and cleaning. This system has been commonplace for centuries. However, more women have been stepping up and have been proving that they are able to work and raise the kids. This change has shown that what typically defined the roles of men and women were not set in stone. As a result, a cultural phenomenon has ensued, women and men are no longer restrained to the old ways that has oppressed them for all these years. Boys and girls can grow up in a world where they are free to truly be what they wish to be. However, with the way society is changing our urge to break these social barriers is at an all-time high. So much so people have been willing to throw out logic and reason to blindly show support for the underdog. While wanting to build a strong sense of progressivism is good, simply going in favor a minority just because they are in the minority doesn’t help anyone and could possibly cause a setback in a group’s ability to achieve what they have been held back from.
