They are constantly trying to push for big brother and how amazing he is, as well as use it to express hatred and contempt for other nations and people. One of the biggest propaganda campaigns is the 2 minutes of hate. Every week everybody in the society would crowd around telescreens and be blasted with images and videos of their most hated person, Emmanuel Goldstein. He was a traitor to the party, and the citizens are being force fed hatred for him. This is a perfect example of how their propaganda can be used in wide scale to brainwash tons of people in small amounts of time. This quote from the book expresses the amount of propaganda use, “we can 't turn it off, we don 't have that privilege” (Orwell 188). This shows how telescreens that watched the people could observe how they acted and thought, so that propaganda could better be distributed to the citizens. North Korea controls their citizens in ways unimaginable to people of the western culture. One of the most invasive ways is completely prohibiting the internet to all citizens. Imagine not being able to check your social media accounts, or go on netflix and youtube. This way of control of freedom is insane. The way people in the book are fact checked, manipulated by propaganda, and controlled by the government are extremely relevant today. The book 1984 is immensely important in understanding how governments like North Korea work, and how to shut them down and free all the poor people trapped there. Understanding how they work, and why the people in the government do the things they do are the only way to learn how to stop them from doing it. The modern day dystopia needs to be stopped, and we are the only ones that can do
