The United States has a total population of 323,341,000 as of April 2016 according to the US Census Bureau. The diversity of the United States population along racial and ethnicity lines makes the country a melting pot. The most recent data on the United States distribution of the total population according to race by the U.S. Census Bureau, 2014 National Projections. In 2014, the percentage of whites, blacks and Hispanics were 62.2%, 12.4% and 17.4% respectively. The majority of the population in the U.S. by race is white. The report by the Census Bureau also provides information on the percentage of minority, the non-whites and in 2014 it was 37.8%. The projected distribution of the population by race in 2060 indicates a lower percentage of whites and an increase in percentage of blacks and Hispanics, which are 43.6%, 13.0% and 28.6% respectively. White Americans do not make up the majority of the population in 2060 and the projection of the percentage of the minority is 56.4%. The population of the minority is projected to make up more than half of the United States population. In 1960 the population by race in the United States were 84.7% white, 10.5% black and 3.9% Hispanic. The white made up a majority of the total population in 1960 with a staggering 84.7% and the percentage has reduced by 22.5% in 2014 and a century from then, the estimated percentage of white making up the United States population is 43.3%, a 41.1% decrease in 100 years.
