Colombia- The definition of culture

Culture could be defined in many different ways (Houghton Mifflin Company, 2002 ) “defines culture as the sum of attitudes, customs, and beliefs that distinguishes one group of people from another. Culture is transmitted, through language, material objects, ritual, institutions, and art, from one generation to the next”. (Houghton Mifflin Company, 2002 ) Going back centuries to when they were a part of a country called Gran Colombia, they have always had a rich and fruitful culture. The primary language in Colombia is Spanish while the primary religion is Roman Catholic. (US goverment (CIA), 2016) As far as their customs Colombians are very family oriented they differ from typical American customs by the way they greet each other. Instead of a simple hello or hand shake for example, male and female usually greet each other with a hug and kiss on the cheek. Where as in the United States there are sweet sixteen in Colombia there are sweet fifteens. They are a culture that is still trying to overcome the hurdle of their illegal drug trade past. As well as trying to overcome the constant terrorist that is LA FARC (The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia)
