In The Book Thief, symbolism of Death as the narrator creates a very literal but different meaning in the book. Death, is present everywhere in the war, and he connects all the characters in the end knowing they are going to die. Death is something all the characters will mourn about and wonder why it 's happening to the best people, "Did they deserve any better, these people? How many had actively persecuted others, high on the scent of Hitler 's gaze, repeating his sentences, his paragraphs, his opus? The hider of a Jew? Or Hans? Did they all deserve to die? The children?" (Zusak 375).
“Death” is realizing he is becoming apart of all the innocent people that were killed, and why this was having to happen. This symbolism shows that Death, is there for everyone wether good or bad, and will always become apart of you no matter what. Symbolism in Slaughterhouse Five is very different, the Tralfamadorian Aliens are symbolizing the Nazi’s in WWII. They are portrayed in a way that the Nazi’s once acted towards others, Vonnegut used them to symbolize that they didn 't care about humanity. Death to the Tralfamadorians is nothing, they show no mourning or loss of humanity towards others “Now, when I myself hear that somebody is dead, I simply shrug and say what the Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is "So it goes." Billy has become a Tralfamadorian, and
