The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of December 7, 1941. The reason Japan bombed Pearl Harbor was to try and destroy the United States’s Pacific Fleet so that they could make sure we would not be able to interfere with their plans to take control over Asia for more resources. This affected America as a whole country, making the United States shocked or surprised by the attack and made us angry. This led to Franklin Roosevelt, the President of the United States at this time, to give a speech to declare war on Japan the very next day that made the citizens of our country glad and ready to go to war and protect our country. World War II finally ended with the United States winning the War in 1945. There were several events that occurred before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor that gave them reason to do so and gave the United States a heads up to watch out for an attack. One of these events was that the United States placed an embargo on Japan by prohibiting exports of steel, scrap iron, and aviation fuel to Japan, due to Japan’s takeover of Northern French Indochina. The Japanese became angry with the United States after stopping their trade by not supplying them anymore with the resources they needed.
