There is no name for the psychotic character in Tell Tale Heart but some believe that it is edgar himself. People claim that Edgar Allen Poe was not a psychopath and that he was just an alcoholic, but what they don't see is his psychopathic tendencies such as extreme anger and quick to get angered. The narrator in the story lets the police inside of the house where he killed the old man and offered them a seat, but the narrator sat right above the dead body. He then proceeded to have a full conversation with the policemen. The narrator makes a mistake by mentioning something about the floors which give the policemen a thought about checking under the floorboards. The narrator started to hear a high pitched noise that he thought was the old man's heart underneath him and he thought that surely the cops heard the heart too but weren't acknowledging it. The narrator began to lose his mind because he thought the policemen were making fun of him and the noise he heard kept growing louder and louder till he couldn't take it anymore and told them "tear up the planks! here, here! --It is the beating of his hideous
