I grew up between two cultures, the Mexican and the Anglo” (p62 How to Tame a Wild Tongue Gloria Evangelina Anzaldúa). Anzaldua was exposed to another language, English, and she feels like her culture was stolen. She had to be careful about what she was saying, and also be careful with what language she was using. Her teacher told her with no respect “If you want to be an American, speak ‘American.’ If you don’t like it, go back to Mexico where you belong.” This statement from her teacher is ridiculous, she just a little kid, and she don’t understand how is the reality, what is the real world. This is discrimination to people that are or come from a different culture which should not be discriminated. We need respect and accept them. Be honest, read the long English article still very hard for me. I find the Chinese version and watch this speech again and again on YouTube. I’m absorbed in how first black president to present his perfect union.
In Obama’s speech, he starts with the founding father of the U.S. He praises them and reminded people must don’t forget how important is their contribution to our country, and made the U.S. to grow, progress like nowadays. He inspired the audience. After that, he moves on introducing himself and talked about his background on his heritage. The most important, he explains his relationship with Reverend Wright and how his relationship with him affected his life. That is very important because the Reverend Wright just creates controversies before the speech. I think he gave hope to people.
I have several views on his speech. The first of all, Obama’s background is diverse. He is the kid burned from the black father and white mother, and white group and black group are both his family. That is why I think he could understand the position of both groups. Second, he doesn't escape and tries to find a method to solve a problem. He has the courage to encounter every problem of racial antagonism. He pursues to people to see clearly. The last of all, He has the sincerity to solve the livelihood problems. He wants to help those who need a breadwinner father and mother.
