The most successful referendum in Australia 's history was in 1967 where 90.77% of the nation voted 'Yes for Aborigines '. We have come a long way since then and racism is now defeated and not acceptable. Does it still exist? Ofcourse. But so does murder, rape and theft....we will never have a perfect society, but we can be proud of what the country as a whole and the majority stand for. Show me one opinion poll which shows significant support for racism, genocide, sexism, violence, abuse......you can 't because such results in any official poll don 't exist. Should aboriginals be thankful to the society that took over lands that were once theirs? Ofcourse not. But the reality is we now have 25 million people here who had nothing to do with the first fleet, should we all leave? Where would we go? The fact is that we are all here now, and the only way forward is to not segregate any person by race......it doesn 't matter now whether you are aboriginal, white, asian or whatever ethnicity you may be, we all need to work together and move forward. Aboriginals should acknowledge that modern Australia is here to stay and they are surrounded by people who respect them, welcome them and fought for
