Yellow journalism is the use of sensationalized, and exaggerated reporting by newspaper or magazines to attract readers. Yellow journalism was used by many news reporters to exaggerate in their news reports or magazines to make them look interesting. Many of the journalist would often criticize the Spanish, exaggerate, and lie about things that weren't exactly true in their newspapers, and magazines just to sell their content and this made the US mad. William Randolph Hearst, and his papers would use Yellow journalism to push the United states into the war by making the spanish look as bad as possible. The sinking of the U.S.S Maine was a US warship that sank under mysterious circumstances in cuba’s Havana Harbor. The explosion of the battleship was blamed on the spanish, even though there was no proof, and was probably caused by an accident that happened onboard.
