The basic story of Snow White is a familiar one we see time and time again; raised by an evil and jealous Queen, There lived a lovely little princess named Snow White. Her Jealous and Evil Stepmother feared one day that Snow’s beauty would surpass her, so she dressed Snow in rags and forced her to work in the castle. Each day the Queen consulted the mirror, “Mirror. Mirror on the Wall. Who’s the fairest of them all?” One day the mirror responded with, "Snow White is fairer than you.” The Evil Queen then orders the young and beautiful Snow White into the forest by the Huntsman to end her life and bring back her heart. In the dramatic, but sadly realistic book Wintergirls, Laurie Halse Anderson tells the story of Lia, an anorexic teenager, after her closest friend Cassie mysteriously dies in a motel room. This engrossing book is suspenseful and breath-taking as Lia and her family take on many challenges and obstacles. More specifically, Wintergirls deals with real world problems such as children actually not eating and cutting themselves because they believe it cures their pain when they don’t even feel safe in their own bodies. This story of the challenges and responses in young teeenagers provides a frequently disturbing but important look into these real-life challenges that kids may go through. I found this story to be extremely sad and a bit disturbing,…

What drives people to the edge? So far gone that they commit heinous crimes, and become compulsive liars for only their benefit. That’s the question Truman Capote tries to answer in his novel, “In Cold Blood”. Capote analyzes the two killers of the Clutter family, Dick Hickock, and Perry Smith, to inform the audience on who they were and not just what they were. First off, the Clutter’s were a family who lived in the small town of Holcomb Kansas.…

Shakespeare and the Brothers Grimm are two of the most famous writers ever known to English. Most popular and recognizable was Shakespeare Macbeth and Snow white by the Grimm brother. The main villainess in the play Macbeth is Lady Macbeth, who is Macbeth’s wife. She is portrayed as a cunning, ruthless and power Hungary wife who just wants to be queen and devises a heinous plan with her husband to gain the royal crown after learning about a prophecy that her husband will be king one day. This is comparable to The Evil Queen in the fairy tale Snow White who is a vindictive stepmother who is obsessed with being "the fairest in the land" her step daughter Snow White makes her zealous of her beauty title, so the Queen thinks of several plans to kill Snow White to gain that title back.…

For a long time people have been using fairytales to teach valuable life lessons. Naturally there are many different accounts of each fairytale, but the majority of people usually divide them between the traditional and modern versions. Referring to the traditional often means the harsh lesson connected to the works by The Brothers Grimm while modern refers to the happy animated Disney interpretations. Looking past the differences in how The Brothers Grimm and Disney like to mood their stories they both share the similar themes of what jealousy and cruel acts can lead to, the envy of the evil Queen in Snow White, the rage and vanity of Gothel in Rapunzel, and the greed of Cinderella’s stepmother and sisters; however, there seems to be a controversy…

Pale skin, light eyes and an overinflated sense of civility ushered in an era of presumed dominance. The White Witch, a suitable name in description, shows the obvious parallel between Europe and its colonies. The native Narnians are “animals” with human qualities or animalistic half-human creatures; while The White Witch more closely resembles a “human” and can superficially be considered “civilized” due to her clothing, gold, imperialist language, Fortress, etc. The symbolism of the color white for this story functions as evil and death as the white snow covers the once rich land of Narnia with the kind of permafrost that paralyzes life itself. Likewise, the White Witch is aptly named by the Native Narnians and Aslan, but does not refer herself as the ‘White Witch’, rather she is “her Imperial Majesty…

The Snow Queen Recently, I had the chance to see The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson at Park Square Theater. The play presented itself different from the time the viewer walked in. When walking in, viewers were greeted with a friendly staff, whose goal was to make each persons view easier and more enjoyable. At first glance, the stage looked different from what most would come to expect. The theater itself appeared clean and prepared for an audience expecting something similar to Frozen.…

“’New Scottish Cinema’ suggests a new wave of film production and is often attributed to filmmaking that considers itself alternative or oppositional to other forms of mainstream cinema”, David Martin Jones, (2005:11). Trainspotting (Danny Boyle, 1995) is a film that worked around the social, political and cultural development in Britain in the late 20th Century. It gives rise to questions of identity, culture, and community. The main theme in this film is about a group of friends with a heroin addiction, and the destructive effects that heroin-taking has upon the individual members of the group. Trainspotting is narrated by Mark Renton, on his need to give up his heroin addiction.…

Further, I analyzed that sexism in the narrative, especially in the scene where she was with the dwarfs and the only way that she could be accommodated, she was to serve them, cook for them, clean, sweep and wash to keep the cottage tidy. This is portraying that the roles of women are clean while the dwarfs symbolizing men go out to do menial jobs. Additionally, the plot of The Little Snow-White is straightforward, and it narrates a story where the beauty of the Little Snow-White attracts envy and hatred from her own stepmother, that almost caused her death. The beautiful queen with a heart as dark as the bats of the night ordered a huntsman to kill the innocent seven-year- old princess. The narrative was told from the point of view of an omniscient narrator that gives the reader the opportunity to share in the struggle of the little princess.…

    Snow Globe Essay

Snow globes are made of clear glass, a transparent sphere with a scenic view and a plastic toy inside the globe. The sphere likewise encases the water in the globe; the water fills in as the medium through, where the snow falls. The globe must be shaken to actuate the snow so the white particles can fall gradually to reach the base. When the snowflakes/object falls, it experiences two external forces which are; the gravitational force and the aerodynamic (air resistance) drag of the object, which gradually brings the object down. Furthermore, the drag force affects the object because of the shape and the viscosity of the fluid.…

Sir James Matthew Barrie arrived into this world on May 9, 1860, in Kirriemuir, Angus, Scotland as the ninth of ten children. His father, although poor, found moderate success as a hardworking small town weaver. James’ parents, not wanting their children to know poverty, instilled in their children the values of ambition, hard work, and a thirst for education. His father, David, grew up without many opportunities, and after having ten children of his own knew he had to give them more than he had. All ten of the intelligent Barrie children had opportunities and attended school in preparation for their careers.…
