Snow Angel Figurative Language

Readers can figure out the figurative meaning by examining sound devices and literary techniques of the poem. One of the sound devices being used in “Snow Angel,” is personification. A literary technique that is being used is imagery. Being able to pick up on certain sound devices and literary techniques allows readers to get a better understanding of what they are reading. If readers do not have a true understanding of the poem being read, it is most likely due to not understanding some factors of the poem itself.
Personification is when a non-human, or even an object, gets characteristics of a human. For example, branches of a tree waving in the wind. The word ‘waving’ is giving the trees a personified trait. In “Snow Angel,” Jan Allison uses the line, “snowflakes kiss your rosy cheeks.” Snowflakes obviously cannot kiss at all, but Jan Allison included this personification of snowflakes in her poem. …show more content…
Imagery can also be detailed figurative language. “Snowflakes kiss your rosy cheeks,” is an example of imagery because it is describing the color of cheeks, and also what the snowflakes are doing. Jan Allison also has the line, “tiny snow angel,” which is another example of imagery, since she is describing the snow angel as tiny. “White winter beauty,” allows readers to vividly imagine the white winter and how beautiful it really is.
These sound devices and literary techniques helped me to understand what the poem was meant to say. Sometimes readers do not understand the true meaning behind a poem, and giving clues throughout for the literal meaning is helpful. The poem is telling the reader of someone in the snow and in the winter season. The winter’s beauty is also
