Figurative Language In 'The Land Of Stories'

"The air was filled with so much smoke, you could barely see the sky." Chris Colfer used writing and acting to give him a new life, and an escape from all his problems. His writing gives you so much depth, that it brings you into a whole new world. Colfer uses a lot of figurative language throughout his series, known as "The Land of Stories". The main language used throughout his 5th book of the series, "An Author's Odyssey", are personification, imagery, and symbolism. First off, Colfer uses a lot of personification throughout his stories. This element adds new thoughts, and always offers something different, to keep the reader in touch with the story being told. In his novel, he uses personification to have Conner's (one of the two main character's) works and stories, become a real-life adventure. Thus meaning, he is wise around the use of imagery. He gives the reader a story that's imaginable, and a vivid experience. An exampled of imagery from his novel is, "A moment later, the legendary Snow Queen appeared on a white sleigh pulled down the creek by two monstrous bears." This quote lets the reader imagine the Snow Queen (who was described in an earlier part of the book), being in control of two huge, wild polar bears, while she's on a white sleigh. Colfer even describes the color of the sleigh to give the reader a more cold and winter-like tone. Another example of imagery used in the story is, "A dozen news helicopters flew in the air around the Eiffel Tower and shined their spotlights on Bolt." In other words, this quotes allowed the reader to picture the scene that is taking place, because Colfer specifically mentions where they are, and what's going on.
