This extinction was mostly caused by at least two snow ball effects on the Earth. It also did not help that in a later extinction it would completely wipe out the few species that have survived that not only included the notorious trilobite but also the Branchiopoda species. These events had occurred during the Devonian Mass Extinction where approximately 70% of the spineless species during this time period had been wiped out. Along the lines of the Ordovician Mass Extinction the majority of the species that had been affected were in relations with marine life rather than the terrestrial species were little to none were affected. In spite of the fact these extinctions the Devonian Mass Extinction had the ability to not only wipe out an enormous amount of species but had also done this amount of damage in various miniature extinctions during a significant amount of time. This time period had lasted roughly 20 or so million years according to …show more content…
The majority of theories involved with this mass extinction are based off the decreasion of carbon dioxide due to the growing number of ground plants. Essentially there had been to stages in these theories the first stage had been some sort of chemical weathering and the second stage would be carbon storage. During chemical weathering it had been said that due to the surplus of carbon dioxide the land plants had started to grow at an amazing speed in such a short amount of time. This would create an enormous decrease of carbon dioxide and a large amount of oxygen which is later said to be the reason why everything had been so gigantic. During the second stage carbon storage it was said to be the main reason why vegetation had increased because plants would create organic carbon from the carbon dioxide in the air and when later when the plant would decompose it would leave the organ carbon in the soil. The Permian Mass Extinction had been the largest catastrophe on the planet Earth that we currently have knowledge on at this prior
