Gatsby takes advantage of this opportunity and gets his friend, Jordan, to ask Nick if he would be able to invite Daisy over for tea at his house. Nick Carraway agrees to this offer and makes arrangements with Daisy as to when she can come over. It was as if “he had waited five years and bought a mansion where he dispensed starlight to causal moths – so that he could ‘come over’ some afternoon to a strangers garden” (Fitzgerald, 76). For Gatsby to wait five years and buying a mansion is a large part of his life and the fact that he’s doing it for Daisy shows how much he loved and is dedicated to Daisy. Nick is referring to Gatsby by saying that he is ‘dispensing starlight to casual moths’ because the starlight reference is all of the money he has and spends on the parties he hosts. The casual moth reference is the upper class to which he’s dispensing all of the starlight towards. Although Gatsby had got to meet with Daisy and reminisce it did not change the matter that Daisy was married to Tom Buchanan, and she couldn’t just leave him for Gatsby. Gatsby’s expectations of how he would see Daisy were different than how he actually got to see her again, but in the end it came to Gatsby’s death.
