At first, I honestly believed that we was not going to be handcuffed and forced to wear prison clothes. Stupidly, I thought we were just going to be held in the prison cells with our regular clothes. I also thought we were all going to be held in one huge cell together. I did not expect for the former three to happen and I thought we were going to stay in the same cell with the same individuals. Obviously, I was wrong. Even though the officers treated us initially like arrestees, when the court cases occurred, we were all laughing and learning about the municipal court system. For other arrestees, this type of handling is not a type of fun or learning experience. Many would either feel regret, anger, confusion, frustration, etc. of their court dates and the elongated confinement (90 days) that they would have to endure. My learning experience of this exercise told me to actually appreciate the life that I am living right now and to not be judgmental towards the prisoners in actual confinement. Being confined for less than 24 hours was not fun at all and was actually boring (except the tattoo drawing). Also, our interaction between Cheryl would be contrasting if were actually incarcerated. If we called the officers derogatory names and “flipped the bird”, we would not only be placed in solitary for disorderly conduct, we would be illegally roughed up by the officers. Overall, I do not consider my experience a tortuous one because it was not. The confinement exercise was an eye-opening opportunity to test how I would do in actual jail/prison and experience just a sliver of what the inside students go through on a daily
