Church as a Mystery
The Shoah was such a catastrophe for Jewish people that they tried to make sense of how a loving God could allow 6 million of their people to be exterminated by the Nazis. Elie Wiesel a Jewish survivor of the Shoah who tried to make sense of the mystery of God by revaluating how God related to people in this world. He does so through his writings in which he questions God and tells us the answers or lack of answers that he receives. Jan Karski was born in Lodz. In 1935, he completed demography studies at University and embarked on a career as a civil servant at the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Having had a strong Christian upbringing Jan learned from an early age what was right and wrong. When the war began Jan joined the Polish underground and began his mission as an underground Christian spy. He shows the value of Servant of Church because of his belief that everyone can be helped even if it puts his life at risk. This quote by Karski “All murder Jew’s become my family” shows see belief that what the Nazi’s were doing was wrong and that even as a Catholic he stood up and had a voice that could spark change.
Jan Karski practices the Catholic Social Teaching of human Dignity. When he saw the Jews in the Ghettos he helped to share their story and risked his life to go undercover to see for himself what it was really like has a Jew. He stood up for the Jews and believed that everybody should have to be treated equal no matter what religion you belong to.
