Edmundson also believes that today’s universities are set up to discourage people with passion for education and encourage a passive acceptance of college. He advocates for less consumerism and higher educational standards. Edmundson feels today’s society only cares about the next newest, biggest item, not about achieving greatness. There is no passion left in today’s society. A society which is solely based on consumerism, Edmundson predicts, will fail to educate people properly. He can tell that universities are so focused on attracting students with the newest gym or best meal plan that they pay less attention to what is really important in school, the education. Students who lack passion and drive will not put their heart and soul into their academics. College education should be offered in a way that allows everyone to succeed. For example, an autistic child cannot be expected to learn in the same way as other children, but that does not mean their standards should be dumbed down. Not just autistic students will benefit from a slower pace though, even an average college student will benefit from a slower pace because by slowing down the pace at which a university teaches these average students will have more time to put passion in their subject matters. There just needs to be an alternatives found. A plan can be put into action for students to succeed and have passion for what they are
