In life we all grow up thinking about what our future will hold. Many of us think as far as college or military. Students should really consider when making these decisions what their personal interest are, and what do they consist of, what their financial budget are and family traditions are. Many students go on to pursue the expectations of what their parents or guardian feels that they should. “They’ve let you know how they size you up, and they’ve let you know what you should value. They’ve given you a sharp and protracted taste of what they feel is good and bad, right and wrong.” (Edmundson 5) Expectation are set and one feels that they need to follow. In all actuality it should be the college students really pursuing their own dreams. Not the dreams that other have set out for you.
Edmunon also saids that by attending a college students are able to explore the new options that are presented. This allows the students to become who they want to be. College is a big deal and one needs to know what they are truly getting themselves into. It is a different world than what one may think. Go to college and once you are done you will have a great job. There are all of these fun fairytales that leads one to think that college is a hop skip and a jump and all actually it is not. In this essay Prof. Edmundson talks about how society isn’t fair and how it is not what it is made out to be. It was a true story. I can agree with almost everything that is written in this essay. I was sitting and thinking about myself wondering, was this something that I really want or is this someone else’s dream for me. I have really learned a lot about college so far and I know that I have a ways to go. I have met a lot of driven students and I have met some not so driven students, many that are here to party I just say hey and I keep going. I know what my goal is and what it is going to take to achieve it. I am going to strive to do my best because this is what I want for me and I don’t want to cheat myself out of what is best for me. I know that it won’t be all happy days but I know in the end it will be all worth it because it is something that I want to
