The men in these communities are not restricted from having explicit sexual contact and experiences before marriage. Powers over females in these cultures affect sex and sexual functioning. Honor killings can affect how a woman performs sexually even during marriage. The suppression could lead to sex desire disorders, arousal disorders and other dysfunctions because of anxiety, fear and pressure from the society. Women who are put through this culture will always be afraid of men who violate them and get away with it (Gültekin, 2011). These experiences can kill sexual functioning because the woman is being taught that sex is bad. This can also lead to the women not having a good sex life because she is has be taught shame around sex so how would she be able to enjoy it. When someone is taught that something is wrong then it is going to make it difficult for them to engage in that behavior. There is a study that is done that compares youth across France, Germany, Netherlands to explore why they are more successful with adolescent sexual health compared to the United States. The article pointed out a huge difference is that France, Germany, and the Netherlands provide greater access to sexual information. I can see where this would improve the outcome of sex. The United States is pretty open when it comes to sex but I got very limited information from school about what sex really is. I remember being taught the anatomy of each body part but not much more than that. I also remember learning about abstinence and how sex can lead to horrible sexual transmitted disease. We were not taught that sex can be good and the benefits of it. Of course I can see why it might not be the best idea to teach teenagers the benefits of sex but if we were also informed about the correct protected measure then we could make informed choices. If I had a teenage client who did not know much information about sex I would struggle with what I should do. I would want to inform them of the places they can seek out the information they need like plan parenthood. I would want to make sure that my client is educated in way of safe sex so that they do not end up with lifelong infection. I feel as therapist it is our job to make sure our client are
