Doctor Paul Dyer (2015) stated the following, “teams succeed or fail, organizations triumph or disappear and even countries rise and fall largely as a result of the quality of their leadership.” (p. 37). Luckily, the Army has exposed me to the full spectrum of leadership styles, qualities, and outcomes thereof. Looking back on my experience in the military, I can recall one leader that was genuine, authentic, and truly embodied the core values that make a great leader. Staff Sergeant Rudy Rodriguez displayed many characteristics of an efficient leader and had a direct impact on my performance, morale, and the success of the organization.
The technical aspects of the military came easy to me as a young soldier; however, I had issues with authority, and my performance often suffered because of this reason. Furthermore, I was close to receiving a pink slip until Staff Sergeant Rudy Rodriguez came into my life.
