Basically, one would be able to find themselves in a fitting band, whether it was with a town weirdo or a geek. Indie introduced a way to include everyone who wanted to be a part of rock music (Cohen 1). During the 2000s, the worry to sign with record deals came to a halt when the indie community favorited their acts with digital downloading. This change started with the bank Wilco, when they released their album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot for free. This was a bold move to not only get their name out to the public’s interest, but also to put an end to the leaks their album was receiving. This album reached number 13 on “Billboard 200”. Wilco maintained this indie trend because they enjoyed the quality of their music, with the renditions of alt-country styles as well as experiments with sonic atmospheres and noise. A song from the album “Ashes of American Flags” varied in vocals with great instrumental backing. This was a contrasting verse-chorus with a 4-measure vamp to slowly introduce the song. Opened in 1995, Cleveland has a museum to raise awareness of the history of Rock N’ Roll. Broadway even features musical genres surrounding rock as well, so it will never leave our history. Teens today know the true aspects which make up rock history, as it truly was back in the 20th century until today. Thanks to technology, people are able to hear from rock critics and musicians themselves based on their own blogs, giving us first-hand experiences in the rock industry. Furthermore, as rock progresses to maintain a popular trend in music, critics are forced to create collections of the best works in rock history (Covach; Chapter 15). Moreover, rock is inside everyone, essentially, forms and stored in different ways. We all think differently, and see the way of rock music in a different light. In order to keep rock music alive, we need to grow and share these experiences and feelings with the world of musical culture. Rolling Stones featured an article about rock music in 2016.
