In this article, Welsh explains how slasher horror film have been frequently criticized over the years based on the assumption that the way women are often portrayed in these horror films, they are very likely to be victims of sexual assault and violence, when juxtaposed with explicit sexual content portrayed in contemporary horror films. Such graphic sexual content in horror films also attracts a large number of young male audience. This article addresses limitations inherent in prior analysis of slasher films, and examines some important questions such as gender differences that exist in the manner in which violent presentations ae often made in horror
