Edward spills the huckleberries, Henry tells him that he has planted some more for an entire generation to eat in the years to come. This also shows Thoreau writing about the future, and the ideas that come along side of it. Henry tries to go to the older generations in scenes to come, and ask them to have the same expressive spirit. However, he finds that they are more hesitant to see the good and go on their own path.
There are many times in our history where moments like this have occurred, where men walked the path that everyone else was going on, never straying from it. They were burdened by the fact that they were not able to be self-reliant, and think for themselves. For example, women in the early 1800s were bound to being at home, working for their family or husbands, never being able to work or experience the outside world. In 1841, a big transition took place and change was put into place. Women started transforming from working at home to working outside in the farms, growing crops for their family.

This is what Emerson was encouraging when he wrote this maxim, andwhat he wanted to see. Women stood up for what they believed in, even though there were some consequences along the way. It was important for them to stand up for themselves, and it had a lasting impact up until today, where women are running for positions in our government and making rules and laws for our country.
Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson were two men who came together and saw the greater good in people, and what that could potentially do to benefit the future. They thought that if only people could think for themselves, and express those ideas, the world would be a better place.
People shouldn't control others, but rather let them think for themselves and come up with their own ideas. Many people are afraid of offending others, and believe that changing people's opinions is a bad thing. In our society today, one can see many different occurrences of Emerson's maxims, and how they came in to play. Our world has changed because people started thinking for themselves, and coming up with their own ideas. However, thoughts and emotions still are brought into other people's minds, and cloud their judgement of right verses wrong. If people would have more integrity
