An example of how he used figurative language is by using metaphors to make the image creative and more vivid. The following is a quote from the speech “Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred” (King Paragraph 8.) Back then during these times of struggle, there was segregation between the whites and colored people. This metaphor, in other words, is saying that when colored people earn their freedom do not take it for good. Do not abuse it by doing the same exact things to the whites knowing that they did every bad thing to you. Always be the better person in the end. Being respectful towards each other is the right way to go. Another example of a metaphor, King used was "The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges" (King Paragraph 7.) This is towards all the Americans on how we all deserve to have the freedom to dream whether if it comes true or not we still have the right. Just like how I have a dream of owning my own house at the age of 27 it might come true or it might not. Lets not let the fear of failure keep us away from achieving our dreams. Dreams do come true, but you have to go out there and make it happen not just sit back and expect it to be given by people.
