5 May 2016 Frankenstein Essay Prompt #3 Victor Frankenstein is the monster because he possesses many of the characteristics that define what a monster is. A monster is a being that harms and puts fear in people. He tries to defy the laws of the universe by bringing back a creature from the dead. His desire to do this overwhelms him and he ignores all the bad things and consequences bringing something from the dead to life could have. His lack of respect for nature, his desire for power, and his stubbornness makes Victor Frankenstein the real monster. Victor is overly obsessed with creating his creature. “a new species would bless me as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to me. I might in process of time… renew life where death had apparently devoted the body to corruption” (Shelley 52). His search for power and fame turn him into an obsessive monster. He wants to be admired and praised. Many people close to Victory experience harm and death from his creature. He rejects his creation from the first time he say it. Because Victor rejected the creature and forced it away, the creature got angry and sought revenge on Victor. But instead of killing Victor, the creature kills everyone close to him. The creature says to Victory, “I shall be with you on your wedding night” (Shelly 149). Victor misunderstands the meaning of what the creature said. He thought that the creature would kill him. On his wedding night, he sent his wife Elizabeth to be leaving her alone because he did not want her to have to see him die.
