Prejudice: “Preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience” (Oxford Dictionaries, 2016)

Thesis statement:

The human nature to engage in prejudice and it leading to problems detriment to certain characters is present across many genres, despite their vast differences. More specifically, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice display the human nature that is prejudice.
Topic sentence: The novel Frankenstein displays prejudice, which is something that all humans possess, towards the monster through Frankenstein, his family members, as well as strangers.

His own creator looks at him in disgust through prejudice due to his appearance. This causes the creature to commit his first murder. His hatred for Frankenstein on how he was treated is his negative motivation.

Topic sentence: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone contains prejudice through different people for unique reasons. Snape is prejudice towards Harry Potter; Malfoy along with other Slytherins is prejudice towards mudbloods and the poor.
Evidence:
a) The primary source of prejudice is from Professor Severus Snape. Snape disliked Harry’s father, as they were rivals in their time at school. His dislike for James Potter is translated down to James son. Harry could be a completely different person from his father and Snape could have come to have a different relationship with Harry if he did not dislike Harry’s father so passionately and allow his feelings to get in the

This prejudice comes from Malfoy and his fellow Slytherin housemates. In addition to his prejudice towards Hermione, Malfoy is prejudice towards Ron Weasley because of his family’s poverty, despite him being a pure blood. Malfoy and his Slytherin classmates underestimate the threesome of Harry, Ron, and Hermione and are confident in their ability to beat Gryffindor for the house cup. This prejudice causes them to underestimate the three friends and hence leads to their loss of the Hogwarts House
