In my opinion criminal procedures in our federal and state courts is very unorganized in a plethora of ways. First, everyone does not get the same type of punishment for the same crimes. The fact that there are crimes individuals commit that can be the same exact crime yet get complete different punishments conveys how precarious our criminal procedures in our courts are. I believe everything that is legal may not be ethical. There was once a time where slavery was legal, cigarettes are legal, etc. For this reason, I believe criminal procedures in our federal and state courts are not organized and should be modified.

I believe this is a problem because federal courts should not be courts of limited jurisdiction and this is something that i will modify. I believe more cases should be able to be in front of federal courts. Federal courts are established under the U.S. constitution to decide disputes involving the constitution and laws passed by congress. The constitution and laws of each state establish state courts. This also a practice of the law that I would modify because since we live in the same country, no matter what state one may be from. State laws should not contradict each other in any way. All state laws should be the same especially since some states are directly next to each other. I do not believe people should be able to do the same crimes and not get the same amount of time solely based on the state they live in or where the crime was committed. There is no reason as to why two people can both be found guilty for first degree murder and get different sentences. There are plenty of examples where supreme court cases that changed laws.
