Parallel Between Opposites
Thesis Statement- In Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, the main protagonist, Victor sees his own persona reflected in the image of the Creature.
No matter who you are, at one point in your life you will find yourself staring at a person that you perceive as your opposite. However, life is full of smokes and mirrors. It is unpredictable. Your perceived opposite can actually be a mirror image of yourself. It is this mirror image that often repels an individual. For Victor it was the creation of the Creature. The Creature had a goal in mind, to destroy everything that his creator loves. The Creature vows not to stop until this happens. Similarly, Victor sets his mind in creating the Creature. When the Creature and Victor set their mind to a task they both exhibit a never ending passion that can accomplish anything; they both tend to think and act the same way. As the story progresses, the Creature fulfills his promise in a very significant way: “I rushed towards her and embraced her with ardour, but the deadly languor and coldness of the limbs told me that what I now held in my arms had ceased to be the Elizabeth whom I had loved and cherished. The murderous mark of the end’s grasp was on her neck, and the breath had ceased to issue from her lips” (145). The Creature wants and needs revenge. The Creature believes that Victor has ruined his life. Victor must suffer in every possible way.
