Oral health is an important factor of living a long healthy life. While there are many aspects or dental care, proper nutrition plays a key role in keeping the gums and teeth healthy. Many people are unaware of the importance of oral health that is associated with proper nutrition. The different foods and nutrients people ingest can have both good and bad effects on their teeth. Proper nutrition will lead to strong healthy teeth, as for malnutrition can cause many negative effects like inflammation to the gums, tooth decay, and eventually the loss of teeth.
Proper nutrition is achieved by obtaining balanced and combined amount of minerals, vitamins, proteins, and healthy carbohydrates. Minerals play a key role in dental nutrition. Calcium and phosphorous are only two of the many minerals that help protect and strengthen the tooth enamel. Calcium can be found in most dairy products like cheese, milk, and yogurt. You can also have a good calcium intake by eating almonds and leafy greens. Phosphorous, on the other hand, is found in protein rich foods like eggs, poultry, fish, and red meats.
Eating fruits and vegetables will allow you to intake many of the vitamins essential for healthy teeth. Vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin B complex help promote healthy gums by providing immune support, aid in the formation of epithelial cells, and promote wound healing.
