Williams has always been misunderstood because of her looks, and gradually she did what people thought which was wrong. “Curley's wife knows her beauty is her power, and she uses it to flirt with the ranch hands and make her husband jealous” (Character Analysis Curley's Wife). Let’s say she did do all the flirting to make her husband jealous, why does she have to make him jealous to get his attention. That's the first issue, Curley doesn't give her any attention, so flirting with others gets curleys and the other ranch workers attention. Curley also goes into town, drinks and sometimes highers a prostitute which makes Clara feel even more worthless. Than, when she starts flirting with the workers all they think is ‘“ … think Curley’s married … a tart”’ (pg. 28), ‘“… she’s a rat-trap if I ever seen one”’ (pg. 32, George said). Curley never stops to think why does she flirt with the workers so much, and the workers never stop to think why does she talk to us too much. They assume they know what's going on, but in actuality know one knows what she has to go through. Then all the guys thinks she's mena, all she is good for is making trouble like ‘“ … I never seen no piece of jailbait worse than her. You leave her be. George to Lennie.”’ (pg. 32). George says this to Lennie because after Lennie sees Clara for the first time all he says is she is “purty”. This was also the first time they encounter Clara and George already senses that she's bad news. But then again he was told before by Candy and others that she was tramp so that idea, assumption was in his mind. Clara was talking to the guys because she had gotten lonely at home, but the new guys already think she is trying to flirt with them. She really can't do much without being thought of as a tramp which is has a very negative effect on her because being told what your not can make you think like that to. Meaning, if she was told that she is a tramp, she will start to believe she is one. This wouldn't
